A Call for Unity of the U.S. Anti-War Movement: UPDATE!
To: United for Peace and Justice (UFPJ) and Act Now to Stop War & End Racism (ANSWER)
Submitted: 23 September 2003
The Northeast Ohio Anti-War Coalition (NOAC) applauds your joint statement calling on everyone who opposes war, invasion and occupation to unite in support of the upcoming October 25 mass march and rally in Washington, DC.
We affirm your decision to work together in every way possible to maximize the turnout on October 25 and, thereby, send a powerful message of wide-spread opposition to the war in Iraq.
The unity of your call for support of the DC action demonstrates the priority and urgency of stopping the occupation of Iraq above all else. This increases the credibility of the message as well as of the messengers.
As a local coalition which has attempted to work with groups of differing backgrounds and strategies, we acknowlege the challenges that this unity brings. We respect the leadership of both coalitions who responded to calls from grassroots coalitions like ours asking for joint support of the October 25 action.
Thanks for your action and joint statement. We dedicate ourselves to doing all we can to turn out as many people as possible in DC. We hope to be a part of a massive outpouring of individuals from all across the nation who will converge on behalf of peace and justice abroad and at home.
